Stop The Leak

What I have recently learned is this: when we begin our day by placing our attention on some distant person, place or thing, we take our self out of the present. When we connect to a distant object, it requires energy. The more objects/situations that we connect too, the more our energy is drained. If we add anger, worry, fear or any other emotions to that thought, the connection becomes stronger and even more energy is drained. This process contributes to our overall fatigue. Think of it like this. Every time you place your awareness on an external person or situation, it is like giving that person or situation a straw to suck the energy out of you. It is as if we put a slit in the side of our being and our energy begins to hemorrhage. For most of us this hemorrhaging happens not just once or twice but dozens of times in dozens of situations throughout the day. It is no wonder we are exhausted at the end of the day. On our way home, we replay our day, judging what we should have, could have done better. This too takes energy. Even when the day is over, our energy connection and the resultant energy drain has not ended if we do not detach from reliving and reviewing the day. We are giving away our life force.
Optimum health requires us to contain our energy rather than spread it all over. We are tired, angry and can barely get through the day because we have given away our energy. Where our energy goes, so goes our power.
Our power is our sense of will. It is how solid we show up in life. It is our groundedness in that no matter what goes on around us, we remain calm. We are centered in our being and grounded in our beliefs. I am sure that we all know such people. They seem unmovable, unstoppable, happy. When we give away our power, getting through the day is work. It takes effort rather than being effort-less. For some people, this is why working at a desk can be more draining than physical labor.
It is common for these types of energy drains to manifest in the lower part of the body as back pain or as stomach problems. Pain is an indicator that our body is trying to get our attention for some reason. Our job is to pay attention and determine what our body is trying to say. Often it is asking us to stop the flow of our vital life force energy to situations and persons external to us!
If you are giving away your power and want to choose differently, this is what you can do. First and foremost is to listen. Listen to what your body is saying. “Gee, my low back is hurting again. Where might I be putting the attention of my thoughts?” Make the connection between how you feel and the choices that you are making. The way we feel both emotionally and physically are excellent barometers for how much energy we are depleting. Trust your feelings, trust your intuition. First thought is best thought.
Mark Twain was quoted as saying that “Life does not consist mainly, or even largely, of facts and happenings. It consists mainly of the storm of thoughts that is forever blowing through one’s head.” It doesn’t have to be that way.
Today life is very different for me. I sleep well. I am rested. My energy level is great. I am passionate about my life. Such gifts are awaiting you. Be the observer not the victim of your thoughts. Remember that wherever your thoughts go so goes your energy. You are now truly on your way to opening your life up to a whole new way of living full of vitality and joy. Be well.
