Elderly men and women are not only just the recipient of care. In some cases, they are the ones giving the care. I have had the honor of witnessing the most beautiful love stories you could ever imagine. The lessons learned from these stories have played a big role in my success as a Professional Caregivers.
We define and are responsible for how our marriage is going to unfold. The partnership of marriage is an ongoing process of learning, changing, patience and acceptance. Marriage is one more step in the cycle of life. We all know that the cycle of life is a wheel that is in constant motion. Nothing in our world is forever; all things are in a constant state of change. Aging is a natural part of the changes. So what are the secrets of the couples in these beautiful love stories? They all had the same general philosophies in common.
When difficulties and pain came into their lives, they took the opportunity to learn patience and endurance. They learned to work through their difficult times with the strength of each other’s love. Instead of letting difficulties conquer and divide them.
Happiness came from focusing and giving to each other. Not worrying about self-importance and worth. Joy comes from giving with an open heart. The act of unconditional love is an art form that requires constant training and awareness.
Being able to accept the changing life roles, (which does happen, do to illness and aging.) Acknowledging we all have to play many roles in life. However, the secret is to be able to adapt to the changing roles with great courage and strength. Having the wisdom of knowing nothing in this world is forever. Love is the most powerful force in the world.
There are many types of beauty. Beauty of the heart and the beauty of love are very magical. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. We perceive beauty in unique and individualized ways. We have the power to create special moments everyday and in every situation. We cannot change other people, or create perfect situation. We can change the way we see and think about them. Our perception that comes from our private thoughts influences our every action.
These are some the basic philosophies from the most beautiful elderly couples that I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with. Our greatest resources and treasures can be discovered within our elderly population. These treasures have with stood the test of time. The best gifts in life are free.
