Living in Awe!

What is it that takes your breath away? What is it that you can do that releases your passion? Where can you go an experience a state of wonder that nothing else can give you in your life? Where have you been that you dream about now? What is the one thing that you’ve done or feel that you want to do that you believe will touch the depth of your soul like nothing else has or can?

I read recently that, ‘Life should not be measured by the number of breathes that you take, but rather, by the number of moments that take your breath away’. I still see Tom Cruise zipping down the ocean side boulevard as he goes and gets Kelly McGinness in the classic love story of ‘Top Gun’. All the while I hear in my mind’s ear that amazing melody and words of ‘Take My Breath Away’.

I will never forget climbing the steps to the rooms of the great masters at the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia on my first trip there. As we opened the huge doors to walk into the presence of 400 plus year old canvases that were once in the studios of Rembrandt, Da Vinci, Raphael and many other geniuses, I came face to face with the most amazing story told on canvas that I had ever seen.

Six feet wide and nine feet tall, I experience one amazing moment of awe as I stood in from of ‘The Return of the Prodigal.’ Since attending Sunday school as a child, I always thought that the story was about a young man who squandered his inheritance living a life of wantonness and the darkest vice. Not until that day did realize that there was a different perspective in the eyes of Rembrandt. He saw the story as being about everyone other than the ‘prodigal’.

If you have see it, in person or in picture, you will quickly realize that Rembrandt was far more interested in the attitudes of the father, the father’s key business associates and especially, the older brother. The ‘prodigal’ is only an obscured figure in the lower left hand corner of this great masterpiece. His back is all you see. His face is buried in his father’s robe.

Two business associates stand to right side of the painting. Confused and seemingly intruding on a very private moment between the father and his wayward son. The older brother peers from behind a large column with a look of surprise and jealous ridden disdain. The ‘awe’ that captured my heart was what the artist intended. I noticed the brush strokes that were put their by the hand of the master. I later heard that a man once spent 3 months in front of this painting writing a book about it. I completely understood why.

Many nights for the past twenty plus years, when I couldn’t find sleep, I would visualize a small lagoon off of the southern tip of the island of Tobago. On the back side of this lagoon stood a small island that was then owned by the Rockefeller family. It was called, ‘Bird of Paradise Island’. Local legend has it that this was the purported island that the story of Robinson Crusoe had unfolded. All I knew was that it gave me a sense of awe and made sleep sweet on many nights.

Recently, I was sent a link in an email that showed the debut of Paul Potts. It was during the Simon Cowell show, ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. This very humble, unassuming, shy man walked on to the stage and in a broken voice, announced that he wanted to sing opera. Each of the judges looked at each other as if to say, ‘there’s no way THIS guy is going to sing opera’. What happened in the next few moments awed even the usually cynical, Simon Cowell. When Paul opened his mouth, a divine gift was unleashed upon the world that will be written in the scrolls of musical history. Needless to say, I’ve watched the YouTube video over dozen times. Not once have I watched it that tears didn’t come to this 6’3″ Texan’s eyes. If you haven’t seen it, you must. (Go to www.YouTube.com and search on ‘Paul Potts’).

In the fast pace that we all live, we must stop and allow moments of awe to extract the breath from our lungs. To stop and look into a newborn babies eyes, stirs within me hope and wonderment. To realize that generation after generation, for hundreds of years, people lived, couples met, conceived child after child in order that one day we could behold the scientifically and statistically miracle of this one baby being born. I think of that one fact when I think about the honor and respect that we should freely give to others on this planet.

Medical professionals have told me that the very real chance that a baby, or you and me, were ever conceived, is millions to one. If any other seed from the male had fertilized the egg of the female, you and I wouldn’t be here. That baby wouldn’t have been born. Your life is a miracle! You are a miracle! When life seems to have been unfair. When things don’t go near what you had planned. Begin to consider your ‘awe’. Look around you. It will take you all of 3 seconds to find something within your present environment that will be one of those moments that takes your breath away.

Do You Feel Life Is Stretching You Like A Rubberband?

Published on April 5, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in General, Self Improvement

The Principle of the Rubber Band:

This principle explains that being stretched can turn out to be very positive. Imagine you hold one end of a rubber band in one hand while stretching the opposite end with your other hand. The more you stretch the rubber band, the more it wants you to let go of it so it can come back to its original position. It just wants to return to its place of comfort.

Yet if we continue stretching it, that rubber band will eventually grow into a new size. When we let go of it now, it will come back some, but not the entire distance. In essence, it has developed a new dimension.

Now imagine that you dip this original rubber band into hot wax and remove it quickly. You then allow the wax to dry. At this point, if you repeat the stretching exercise you’ll notice that the wax caked around it cracks and crumbles, as you extend the rubber band. Then it falls off.

The same dynamic occurs with humans. We don’t want to get stretched, because it will involve letting go of some external layers. We are comfortable within those layers, and they may even seem to be protecting us. Yet, in fact, they are getting in the way of the new, evolving being who we already are on the inside. They are an impediment to our growth.

Like that rubber band, we must temporarily experience being uncomfortable when we stretch and grow. In the process of becoming the butterfly we were metaphorically meant to be, we are outgrowing a cocoon. The butterfly doesn’t snip off its wings and re-enter the cocoon. It knows of no such thing. But we, as human beings, have a tendency to snip our own new-grown wings so we can retreat to the cocoon that represents our old zone of comfort. Unfortunately, the zone of comfort is seldom the territory of fulfillment. The butterfly has no choice.

As human beings we have the ability to make choices. The next time you are feeling stretched and uncomfortable, pat yourself on the back and say “Good for me. I must be growing!” In fact, if you are not stretching, growing, and evolving, then you
are probably too attached to being comfortable. A true lesson of life and a new level of wisdom will both arrive when you instead respect The Principle of the Rubber Band.

It is absolutely crucial that you must not judge, criticize, and compare yourself to others while you are being stretched. To do so will only make you feel stuck. You will focus on the pain of stretching, and want to go back to your old cocoon. Instead, treat yourself as compassionately as you would a child who is learning to ride a bicycle without training wheels. Give yourself extra nurturing. Drink a cup of hot tea, go for a walk, read a book, take a few deep breaths, and above all be patient. Training wheels have allowed that child to develop a sense of balance, to know how the bicycle is ultimately going to feel under their control. But if that child doesn’t eventually ride without training wheels, they will never experience how fast they can truly go, how sharply they can maneuver around obstacles, and how self-confident they can feel.

Therefore, always strive for the courage to take the extra wheels off. And one day you will do it. Because you realize that remaining in the “training wheel zone” will prevent you from reaching a new level in life of manifestation and creation.

Now imagine that you are a gardener who tends a rose bush. You notice a new green bud that appears, but as the days go by it remains closed. It’s afraid of opening up. It is resisting the processes of blossoming, changing, and stretching.

Alongside it there is another new bud, one that has decided to open up and – in spite of the possibility of cold rain, tornadoes, and hurricanes – it has further decided to blossom. Once it has opened, people passing by are inspired to notice its beauty, smell its fragrance, and touch its silky pedals.

When eventually that rose dies, it’s petals fall all round. People who walk close by notice the pedals on the ground, and they know that a fully blossomed rose once existed. Meanwhile, the unopened bud also dies. It shrivels, crumbles, and falls away.
No one but the gardener ever noticed that it was alive or even notices now that it has gone.

Vision Boards Will Help You Achieve Your Dreams

Published on March 21, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in Self Improvement

Do you want to develop super focus and clarity in your life?

If so, the creation of a simple dream board or vision board may be the very answer that will help to place you in the league of the super achiever.

So what exactly is a vision board?

Also known as ‘dream boards’, they are a simple and visual representation of your goals, aims and objectives in life. Usually they are no more than and eclectic mixture of pictures and images which accurately portray something which you wish to own, become or achieve in the near future.

Most vision boards would be a collection of images cut out from old magazines, with a few additional photographs all pasted onto a board which is then hung in a place of prominence so you will be reminded of your goals every time that you pass.

However, what is of most importance is what they mean to their creator and the intention behind creating them.

For some people their vision board becomes the big picture of their life, and a route map to their success. As our mind moves us towards the achievement of what we think about most a vision board makes perfect sense. We are in fact creating a giant aide-memoire that is a constantly reminder of the route we have set for ourselves in life.
At subliminal level the act of creating a dream board becomes a powerful intention and driving force to take positive action and start achieving and moving us towards our objective.

Dream boards can specifically focus on just one goal, or a mixture of all of your goals, the choice is yours. If you are a visual person, then time spent in developing a creative and exciting vision board will be a strong motivator for you to take action on a regular basis.

A tried, tested and proven principle…

The marketing and advertising industry have been using the dream board principle successfully for many years. They well know that a good picture or image can often do more to fire the desire of potential prospects, than a thousand well written words. So why shouldn’t it work well for you also.

You can get started on your vision board today by collecting suitable photographs and images as and when you see them. As your collection grows you can start to organise them into more specific goals and objectives.

One person that I know created his vision board digitally in a graphics program on his computer. He then sent his high definition file to a local digital printer to reproduce as a large poster size images. Surprisingly he managed to get 5 high quality prints for under£20! He then hung his vision boards around his home and place of work.

He also turned that same vision board into a screen saver for his computer which means he was constantly exposed to it and what he wanted to achieve.

Remember to hang your vision board in prominent position where you will see it regularly.

There are many amazing stories about the success of vision boards and how they help you achieve your goals. The one I like most is about the person who discovered that he was living in the exact house from one of his early vision boards. The reason he didn’t immediately recognise this fact was that he made a number of house moves as his career escalated and had left his vision boards safely packed and in storage.

Only after he had moved into his recently acquired mansion and still unpacking, his son queried the contents of the unpacked storage box in his study did he make this remarkable discovery.

Put your life into top gear by developing a vision board today

Law of Attraction and Divine Order

Published on March 20, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in Self Improvement

I remember as a child hearing that “Order is heaven’s first law.” I think it was when my mother wanted me to clean my room. In addition, I know that my friend Judy used to say, “Order is about finding a place for everything and then it is about remembering where it is.”

Therefore, order is really about knowing where everything is. That is the kind of order I hire an assistant for. It could not be an innate Divine Quality, or it would have come naturally. Straightening out my desk does not come naturally to me. Keeping clean closets and drawers? for some it comes naturally, but for the rest of us?

If you study personality types, you understand there are different ways of being. Therefore, the above could not exactly be what order as a Divine Quality means. However, the very fact that most of us, including myself, have a longing to have things in their proper place, (I really feel better when they are that way) and that is why I get someone else to do those things. Therefore, it is an indication that there is something here to look at.

You can relax because I am not going to tell you that order definitely means a clean desk, because you will check mine! Instead, I want to share a story.

A Navajo Indian and his friend were in downtown New York City, walking near Times Square in Manhattan. It was during the noon lunch hour and the streets were filled with people. Cars were honking their horns, taxicabs were squealing around corners, sirens were wailing. The sounds of the city were almost deafening. Suddenly the Navajo said, “I hear a cricket.” His friend said, “What? You must be crazy. You couldn’t possibly hear a cricket in all of this noise!”

“No, I’m sure of it,” the Navajo said, “I heard a cricket.” “That’s crazy,” said the friend. The Native American listened carefully for a moment, and then walked across the street to a big cement planter where some shrubs were growing. He looked into the bushes, beneath the branches, and sure enough, he located a small cricket.

His friend was utterly amazed. “That’s incredible,” said his friend. “You must have super-human ears!” “No.” said the Navajo, “My ears are no different from yours. It all depends on what you’re listening for.” “But that can’t be!” said the friend. “I could never hear a cricket in this noise.” Yes, it’s true,” came the reply.

“It depends on what is really important to you. Here, let me show you.” He reached into his pocket, pulled out a few coins, and discreetly dropped them on the sidewalk. Then, with the noise of the crowded street still blaring in their ears, they noticed every head within twenty feet turn and look to see if the money that tinkled onto the pavement was theirs. “See what I mean?” asked the Navajo. “It all depends on what’s important to you.”

What is important to you? What do you listen for? What are you hearing lately? When you listen to the news? When your friends talk? When you listen to your own internal dialogue?

What do your eyes see? Do you see a world that is torn by strife and terrorism? Do you see lack and limitation all around you? Do you see not-enoughness? Do you see random events happening with no control over them? Do you see chaos? Alternatively, do you see with a different set of eyes and hear with your inner ears that KNOW without a doubt that everything? In addition, I do mean everything. Is in perfect Divine Order. After all, if you know “the Secret”, it all works by the Law of Attraction.

Principles of Receiving

Published on March 10, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in Self Improvement

0

The Principle of Receiving:

What do you say when someone gives you a compliment? What does your body language communicate? More importantly how do you feel?
America’s greatest humorist, Mark Twain, felt this way: “I have been complimented myself a great many times, and they always embarrass me – I always feel they have not said enough.”
His wonderful joke touches upon our ambivalence about receiving. We simultaneously feel that we may not be worthy, and also that we actually want more.

Many of us have blocks that hamper the natural act of receiving. The Principle of Receiving says, though, that we need to allow ourselves to be open to abundance of all kinds.
Resisting compliments, or any other form of receiving, will block the flow of abundance into your life.

How do you go about removing any blocks you may have?
Start with a basic tool. This can be your service. You market this basic tool or service to others. By being open to receiving, you create profit. With consistency and time, this profit
will turn into bigger profits, which can empower you to give an even bigger service if you choose. Therefore we are able to begin with service and end with a bigger service. The
bridge from one to another is built by our ability to be open to receiving, and therefore to collect the profits we create. That is why you don’t ever want to say, “I don’t need that much
money.” Why? Because with the financial abundance you create you would be able to assist and empower millions of others.

Receiving financially is accelerated in two ways.
The first is to be bold and ask. The second, if the answer turns out to be no, is to take absolutely no offense. This is the formula for production and success: to boldly ask for what
we want in exchange for our services, and to never be so attached to the outcome that we can only live with an answer of yes. Conversely, to be afraid to ask, and to be attached
to the outcome, is a sure formula for lack and struggle.

Receiving is not only about our ability to receive money. It is also about our ability to receive love. Many people don’t allow others to become emotionally close because they are
anticipating them eventually leaving. Subconsciously, they are afraid of being rejected, hurt, and feeling sad once again.

To become open to receiving, we must trust that the journey will unfold as it should, and whether the outcome is positive or negative according to our perceptions and expectations
along the way, we must still have gratitude for what is. The wonderful paradox in The Principle of Receiving is that our “attitude of gratitude” not only lessens the likelihood that we will
suffer from fears of hurt and rejection, it also attracts positive outcomes.

Law of Attraction: A Summary

Published on March 10, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in General, Self Improvement

0

In its elementary, most uncomplicated form, Law of Attraction (LOA) insists on the soundness of one deeply embedded saying: like attracts like. The thing is that the matters on which you set most of your interests, most of your attention are the ones that will be instantly drawn into your life. These are all important aspects that will guide your life. Whether they will tyrannize it or favorably manage it, this is one consequence that only depends on your attitude. However, we could easily wonder why then we aren’t all happy, wealthy and healthy. Aren’t all people focusing on these issues?

To be true, the answer to this question is NO, unfortunately. Most of us don’t really concentrate on the best things in our lives. On the contrary, we tend to only see what’s most unfortunate or sad. If something wrong is going on, we barely think of something else but to that unhappy situation, instead of focusing on the potential solutions. Apparently this is deep-rooted in our human nature and it takes quite some practice to change this habit.

Consider this: is it difficult for you to accept the fact that just by thinking – really thinking – about it you could be happy? Well, if you cannot accept this, you have a long way to go to settle things down with LOA. If you think that it is impossible to get rich, to be healthy, to be loved, to keep fit, to love, the immediate consequence delivered by virtue of LOA is that you will not be rich, healthy, loved, fit or loving. In other words, thinking in terms of impossibility attracts the impossibility of all the things you desire, but don’t feel confident enough that you can get. In this manner, you are summoning only the negative aspects of LOA.

If you want to call forth the positive attainments of LOA, you need to focus on the things you want. Don’t over-exaggerate with the idea that you don’t have them. On the contrary, allow your mind to picture them, dream them up, and anticipate just how it feels to have them. You need to be confident that you will obtain all those things you envisage. This is how LOA will suggest to you the best possible means of getting what you need. Indeed, LOA will not make happiness fall from the clear blue skies: it will offer you the best approaches that will facilitate your road towards happiness.

In the end, it is all a matter of positive vibrations. Of course, some work will have to be done; LOA is not a magic wand or the fairy godmother that will make you thin in a second or bring you wealth at a clap of hands. On the contrary, in order to have access to the proper mechanisms that will lead your way to attaining what you wish for, you need to grow aware of the influence that LOA has on the fortunate or unfortunate development of your enterprises. So prepare your mind to accept the positive things in your life and positive outcomes will not fail to turn visible.

How to Use Law of Attraction to Create Better Relationships

Published on February 16, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in General, Self Improvement

0

Every emotion we feel, every thought we think, everything we focus on has the power of influencing our life. And, in point of fact, every attitude we express or experience really influences the way we build our life. This is the Law of Attraction; what you see is what you get. If you picture you will never manage to find the love of your life or that you will never have a true friend, such things will never occur to you, because it is impossible for you to visualize just how good it will feel to actually hold a friend or a loved one as the most undeniable reality.

Therefore, you need to train your mind: you need to tell it what you really want from a relationship. It is highly significant that you get to inherently grasp the attitudes, the physical characteristics, and the interests that make sense in your life and in the development of the relationships you get into. All of these data are necessary so that you can establish a clearly targeted focus. Focus is the primary notion, the one you will be working with by virtue of LOA.

Many people keep it on a losing streak when it comes to relationships simply because they focus on what they did not want from certain relationships. They did not want their partners to be that thin, that fat, that impatient, that dreamy, that material, and so on. But they miss out the entire point: they just won’t focus on what they DO want. They only see the negative aspects. As a consequence, by virtue of LOA, they will attract only the negative dimensions of their relationships.

The problem grows even more acute when such people go on to the next relationship without eve having given a thought to what was wrong about their prior attitude. And they keep it on with the same negative vibrations from one relationship to another; they probably think: “I want to start it all over again.” But if they start it with the same negative attitude, the vibrations will mirror back only negative outcomes.

The first step to a perfect relationship is to make an inventory of the positive things you expect from it. You need to focus exclusively on positive expectations. Just by noting down what you dream of will make it easier for you to begin the next relationship on the right foot. Next you need to visualize you have everything you could have wanted from that relationship, without actually fooling yourself. LOA will not fail to let you know in due time what are the best methods of approaching this or that relationship. Yes, there will be work to do: you won’t seize the perfect partner or friend by expecting LOA to act alone. By virtue of the same Law of Attraction, action attracts action. So it’s time you trained your mind and prepared your soul into perceiving what’s good about a relationship and avoiding focus on the negative aspects alone. In this manner, you have found the best road toward better relationships.

Law of Attraction 101

Published on February 14, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in General, Self Improvement

0

The law of attraction is similar to the sayings “You reap what you sow” or “what you do comes back to you.” In other words, the law of attraction is about sending and receiving energy. If you’re negative, negativity will manifest around you. If you’re positive, positive outcomes will manifest in your life. Some people call this karma, while others equate it with the Golden Rule.

Think of a pebble dropping into a placid lake. The law of attraction is like the concentric circles that the pebble creates in the water. The circles keep traveling, spreading outward. Eventually they reach the shore, where they bounce back, then return to the place where you dropped the pebble. With the law of attraction, everything you do is like dropping the pebble into the lake. Everything you do, no matter how big or how small, no matter whether it’s positive or negative, comes back to you.

If you shower others with affection, you, too, will be showered with affection. If you are rude to others, they will be rude right back to you. It’s as if with the law of attraction, human beings become mirror images of one another.

If you constantly worry about something bad happening, such as getting in a car accident, eventually you’re going to get into a car accident. But if you always envision yourself and your loved ones traveling safely, you will enjoy safe journeys. Such is the law of attraction.

Monitoring Our Emotions, Thoughts and Decisions

If you don’t like a particular situation, you can change it through the law of attraction. By recognizing and transforming negative emotions such as fear, hate, anger and worry, we can attract better circumstances in our lives. Although all emotions are valid, we can’t let negative emotions become chronic, or else we’ll invite myriad unsavory scenarios into our lives. The very first step, and the trickiest, is to become aware of your negative thoughts and emotions. Then you can work on transforming them to positive thoughts and emotions. You can either be angry about an unexpected $400 auto repair bill, or you can be grateful that you have enough money to pay for it!

Likewise, we can monitor our decisions. Sometimes we make poor decisions based on their superficial allure. Perhaps we work for a terrific boss, but we want to make more money; so we accept a higher-paying job working for a boss with anger-control issues. Which is more important, $3,000 more a year, or happiness? According to the law of attraction, we literally create our own reality.

Think Positive Thoughts, Lead a Happy Life

Published on February 12, 2007 by TheHealthyVillage in General, Self Improvement

Every single thing in life operates from the law of attraction: love, wealth, success, happiness, you name it. This is why inspiring motivational speakers are so moving; they are intimately familiar with the law of attraction, and they therefore stress mental transformation techniques to help us make all our wildest dreams come true.

Just Like a Magnet

Just like corresponding poles on different magnets, like attracts like. Smart people attract other smart people. Wise people attract other wise people. Virtuous people attract other virtuous people. In other words, in alignment with the law of attraction, similar people gravitate toward one another. The same holds true for general circumstances; you’ve heard the old saying, “misery loves company!”

This is why we should pay particular attention to our thoughts and emotions. Most human beings focus on the negative; this is part of the human condition. Most people complain about every little thing that goes wrong during the course of a given day, but they fail to realize that literally hundreds more things go right than go wrong! But the law of attraction is non-judgmental. It doesn’t care whether you’re thinking positive thoughts or negative thoughts. The law of attraction simply follows your train of thinking to manifest circumstances in alignment with your thoughts and emotions.

But if we keep our thoughts in check, and better yet, focus them on the positive, then we are harnessing the power of the law of attraction for our ultimate benefit. Human thoughts and emotions emit their own special kind of psychic energy; negative thoughts yield negative outcomes, and positive thoughts yield positive outcomes. The law of attraction depends solely on the power of your thoughts and emotions! Focus your thoughts to help improve your life. What are your goals? Cultivating more wisdom? Discovering more truth? Finding true love? Being the successful person you know you can be?

To make the law of attraction work for you, throw out your negative thoughts and focus your mind on thinking positive thoughts. Resist the temptation to complain about every little trivial thing that goes wrong. That’s just life. Visualize your ideal life. Think like other highly successful people: set goals and dream big! If you’re optimistic, you’ll be surrounded by optimistic people. If you’re motivated, you’ll be surrounded by motivated people. If you think you’re attractive, other people will find you attractive. Use the law of attraction to turn your dreams into reality!
